WHY BLOG?

Welcome to my blog. I am an engineer, retired from Caterpillar and Cummins, living with my wife in Charleston, SC. I am also proud to proclaim that I am a practicing “grandpa”, which, in case you haven’t yet realized, is the highest office to which any man on planet Earth may aspire.

But, this is not a “Grandpa” blog. This blog is to vent my frustration that we-the-voters have carelessly and shamelessly allowed our constitutional “government of the people by the people and for the people” to be mutated into a “government of the people, by the politicians, and for the government.

I would be ashamed and humiliated to leave this screwed-up, dead-end government to my kids and grandkids without at least trying to help fix it.

I’ve been paying attention to politics and government for over 50 years. I watched the Kennedy/Nixon campaigns in 1960, the McCain/Obama campaigns in 2012 and every other one as well. In my mind the difference between where we were then and where we are now is striking and highly alarming.

In 1960, I judged the candidates Kennedy/Nixon to be  serious men, honest, honorable, and “mostly” truthful in their campaigns. I agreed and disagreed with them but thought they at least had the best interests of the nation at heart.

In 2008, I judged the candidates McCain/Obama to be dishonorable, deliberate liars, lusting for power without the slightest regard for the best interests of the nation.

I have previously tried to address some of these changes in a data-based manner, and I intend to continue doing that, but in the future I also intend to stir the personal, media, hot-button issue and special interests aspects of todays politics as well. And . . . just for fun I might throw in some “local” stuff.

So if you have explored this blog before, welcome back. If this is your first time, don’t worry, I’ll be gentle.

Comments are welcome. I’ll answer if I can.

Would you be interested in seeing my idea for a way to get more citizens involved and able to hold our elected and appointed official accountable?
